Car Driving

To drive any vehicle in Chile you need a driver license. You can rent a car or use public or private transportation.

The country features many highways, very well signalized, although they do get cramped at peak hours, so you can get caught in traffic jams.

To drive around the country, you need a circulation permit issued in your country, preferably an International Driver's Licence, and the car's permit as well. The speed allowed is as follows: 120 km/hr in highways and 70 km/hr in urban places.

You should know that the following practices are penalized by law and can result in a ticket issued by the police: driving without the seatbelt on, driving while smoking, driving while talking on a cellphone (wireless or bluetooth gadgets are allowed, but not encouraged), driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
