Description
Half-day excursion to the Magdalena Penguin Colony, departing from Hotel in Punta Arenas.
Itinerary
Depart from our hotel in Punta Arenas and travel towards Magdalena Island, one of the largest penguin colonies in Chile, with an estimated population (during the months of November to March) of over 150.000 specimens of Magellan Penguins, located right in the middle of the Strait of Magellan, 35 kilometers north from the City of Punta Arenas.
This two-and-a-half-hour excursion begins through the waters of the mythical Strait, sailing the same route made by the brave explorers of the end of the world, such as, Sir Francis Drake, Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa, Hernando de Magallanes and Charles Darwin, among others.
The natural riches of this island invite us to admire an impressive spectacle of wild life. Magdalena Island was declared a National Park in August 1966 and re-classified as natural monument in 1982.
We continue our tour to the lighthouse, from where we will have a great panoramic view of the island and surrounding areas. Return to our hotel in Punta Arenas.
