Itinerary

At the time and place previously indicated, you must present yourself. At 09:00 am departure by ferry from the Tres Puentes Dock in Punta Arenas, heading Porvenir in the Tierra del Fuego Island, sailing the Magellan Strait, being received by the beautiful toninas, escorting our ship.
After visiting the tranquil city of Porvenir and its special architecture, we will have time to visit the Museum, continuing at 1:30 pm to Inútil Bay. 96 km away from Porvenir, throughout the International Highway leading to San Sebastián Boarding Crossing, we will get to the ONAISIN Crossing, taking the right way to CAMERON. 14,5 kms more we will arrive in King Penguin Park. Here we will be received by the park ranger who will be with us during the visit to answer any question we may have about this barely known penguin specie, set in this place just a few years ago.
Nowadays, during the high season, up to 80 specimen can be seen, from 15 or 20 meters from the limit line. In this place, we will be able to watch some archaeological sites, showing us the coexistence of humans and King Penguin is older than we think. The EMA Lagoon, close to the Park, is regarded as an important wetland and place for nesting, and allow us to watch a great variety of birds of different species. When we get to the Onaisín Crossing, the English Cemetery can be visited.
After one hour and a half in the park, we will continue to the Sombrero Hill, crossing through iconic stockbreeder estancias of Tierra del Fuego and it will be possible to watch sheep, rheas, guanacos, foxes, skunks, flamingos and many other bird species. Cerro Sombrero is a small town, home of the Oil workers of the Island and a reflection of the golden days of this region. 30 km away from Cerro Sombrero it is located the 1° Angostura Station, the narrowest passage of the Magellan Strait, where after a 25-minute sailing, we will return to the continent. At 10:30 pm we will arrive in Punta Arenas.

The best time to visit is between October and April, during the spring and summer season. In these months the weather conditions are more favorable for excursions, with milder temperatures and longer days. In winter, the weather can be very cold, with strong winds and snow.
Punta Arenas can be reached by plane from Santiago, Puerto Montt or other cities in Chile. From Punta Arenas, travelers can take a ferry or bus to Tierra del Fuego, depending on the tour. Some tour packages include transfers, such as bus rides to the entry points to Tierra del Fuego.
No trekking experience is necessary for most tours, although some excursions may include moderate or low-difficulty hikes. However, if you opt for a more challenging trek in Tierra del Fuego, such as the circuit in Alberto de Agostini National Park, it is advisable to be in good physical condition.
The weather in the region is extremely variable, so it is essential to wear layered clothing, including waterproof jackets, thermal pants, gloves, scarves, hats and hiking boots. Although the summer months tend to be warmer, wind and rain are common, so be prepared for all types of weather.
For a comfortable and complete visit, a 4 to 7 day tour is recommended. This allows you to explore both Punta Arenas and Tierra del Fuego with enough time to enjoy the main activities, such as visits to Magdalena Island, tours of Pali-Aike National Park, and excursions in Tierra del Fuego.

Yes, Tierra del Fuego can be reached from Punta Arenas by road, crossing the Strait of Magellan by ferry (depending on the tour). The island is connected by a bridge to the mainland of Chile at some points, but not all tourist routes include road access, as some are done by boat.
