Moon Valley Tour

Reception and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama from Calama airport. In the afternoon, departure from the hotel to the Moon Valley (15:30 in summer and 14:30 in winter, previous confirmation). If you come to San Pedro de Atacama you can not miss this unique place in the world, the Valley of the Moon, in the middle of the deep aridity of the Cordillera de la Sal we find a landscape of salt and clay molded by water and wind over millions of years, in our walk we will visit the Tres Marias, the Canyon, the Duna Mayor and the Amphitheater by the extravagant forms that gives us the mountain range inciting the imagination and reflection for its tranquility. In the late afternoon, we will go to the Kari viewpoint (Piedra del Coyote) to enjoy one of the best views of the Valley of the Moon, to finally finish watching the sunset that, through its colors, gives us a wonderful end to our excursion.

with the help of a laser pointer. With an expert we will learn the Andean archaeo-astronomy of how our American ancestors related the cosmos to their geographical and cultural.

We will leave at 07:30 - 08:10 am from the hotel to visit salt flats located in the border region between Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. We will travel over the famous and extensive Caldera de la Pakana, being able to be amazed with beautiful viewpoints, bofedales and salt flats. Wonders of the world where the mixture of colors forms a multicolored landscape over 4,000 meters of altitude.

Departure during the early morning from hotel in San Pedro de Atacama (05:30 hrs. Pick up at 05:00, subject to confirmation) We will head towards the Tatio Geysers. Our trip to the altiplano begins during the early morning to finally reach one of the most important geothermal fields in the world, the "Geisers del Tatio", surrounded by water and steam emanations we will enjoy the beauty of the Andes and with this natural scenery we will offer you a replenishing breakfast. Then we will visit the "Pozon Rustico" where you can enjoy the hot springs that the mountain range gives us. Taking the road back to San Pedro de Atacama you will be able to enjoy the beauty of the landscape, native flora and fauna and finally from a viewpoint we will observe the town of Machuca, place of ancestral llama shepherds. We will observe the flora and fauna of the Putana River such as Vicuñas, llamas, rheas, vizcachas, flamingoes, ducks and seagulls.

The best time to visit is between October and April, when temperatures are more pleasant and all tourist activities can be carried out without major inconveniences. However, the weather in the Atacama Desert is unpredictable, so it is recommended to be prepared for temperature changes.
Yes, although daytime temperatures can be warm, nights in the desert can be very cold. It is advisable to bring light clothing for the day and warm clothes for the night, as well as a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses.
The most common way to get there is to fly from Santiago to Calama Airport, and then by land vehicle to San Pedro de Atacama (which is about 100 km from Calama).
Yes, especially in high season. San Pedro de Atacama is a popular destination, so it is recommended to book tours in advance to secure your place, at least 48 hours in advance if you plan to visit the most popular places.

San Pedro de Atacama is over 2,400 meters above sea level, and some of the tourist destinations, such as the Tatio Geysers and Lagunas Altiplánicas, are over 4,300 meters above sea level. It is important to stay hydrated, avoid alcohol in the early hours and take it easy during the first day. If you have problems with the altitude, it is advisable to talk to your guide.
In our tours the vehicle stops at the most important places of interest to make short walks, usually to get closer and have a better experience or better views. They are easy in physical terms.

Todos los tours contratados han funcionado muy bien, tanto en los transportes, como la puntalidad y en los alojamientos. Los guías nos han parecido buenos profesionales y muy atentos.
Agradecer a la sra Alejandra su atención y buen hacer para solucionar satisfactoriamente todos los problemas de alojamiento que se presentaron al contratar los tours de Atacama, de Torres del Paine y de la Región de los Lagos. Además de las iniciativas propuestas para mejorar y adaptar los tours a nuestra disponibilidad y a los enlaces con los vuelos ya contratados por nuestra parte.
Sugiero aumentar y esquematizar la información sobre las excursiones de los tours.

Services from VisitChile and the subcontracted agency TurisTour were excellent. VisitChile staff did an excellent job of booking the trip. TurisTour did an excellent job of rescheduling the tours to work around the road closures due to weather conditions. All staff were extremely courteous and helpful. We appreciate receiving a refund for the tour to the geysers that we were unable to take because the road was closed.
The only problem we had with our trip was an unexpected delay upon arrival in Calama airport on Aug 25. The road to San Pedro de Atacama was closed. In our minimal Spanish, we understood that it was due to weather and that we could return to the airport, get a hotel room in Calama,or transfer to another vehicle at the shopping center and wait for an undetermined amount of time. The drivers for TurisTour were very accommodating, but we were not able to call anyone on our cell phones or speak in English to anyone who could explain what the problem was (road washed or landslide? temporary closure due to snowfall?) and what our options were. We tried arranging for a 4WD vehicle (since they were being allowed through) with our limited language skills, but finally decided to wait. It all worked out OK--the road had just been closed due to snowfall; it reopened and we were driven in TurisTour van. It would have saved us several hours of anxiety, however, if an English-speaking age
